Terengganu Cycling Team’s Adiq Husainie Othan won Stage 2 of Jelajah Malaysia.

Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) notched their second stage win in a row at Jelajah Malaysia thanks to an impressive performance from Adiq Husainie Othman today.

Adiq won the second stage covering 145.3km from Lumut to Kuala Kurau in a time of 3 hours, 17 minutes and 12 seconds. Ariya Phounsavath (Thailand Continental Cycling Team) and Police’s Fauzan Ahmad Lutfi came in second and third in the sprint finish.

Adiq, who has struggled with injuries this season, said he was happy to secure TSG’s second stage win at Jelajah Malaysia this year after Nur Amirul Fakhruddin Mazuki won the opening stage yesterday.

“It was a tough race today, we started expecting it to be a day for the sprinters but there were a lot of breaks early in the stage. I saw my chance and took it, it was pretty close at the end.” said TSG’s stage winner Adiq Othman.

Nur Amirul retains the Sprinters jersey (green) while Zawawi Azman retains Best Malaysian (red) and Ryan Thomas moves into the coveted Overall leader’s jersey (yellow).

“I really did not think I would end the day on the podium after struggling with knee problems earlier this year. It is a good feeling and I will keep working hard in tomorrow’s stage, it doesn’t matter who wins as long as it’s (someone from) TSG.” added the 26 year old.

Australian Ryan Thomas from Oliver’s Real Food Racing took charge of the yellow jersey today but it is very close in the general classification with the top 10 separated by only 10 seconds.

Today’s third stage will see riders covering 141.5km from the Royal town of Kuala Kangsar to Kulim. There will be a two climbs at Bukit Sumpitan (Cat 3) and Bukit Ijok (Cat 4) and sprint points on offer at Lenggong, Selama and Serdang.
