Three world champions – Azizul, a world keirin champion, Jun Hoong, gold medallist in women’s 10m platform individual, and pencak silat exponent Mohd Al Jufferi Jamari, will lead Malaysia’s contingent during the opening ceremony at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Aug 19.
For world keirin champion Azizul, this is his second time as flagbearer as his first experience was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, almost a decade ago. He expressed his excitement and thanked Minister KJ for the appointment.
For the upcoming SEA Games, Malaysia is eyeing more than 100 golds to regain the overall title. Malaysia were overall winners for the first time with 111 golds when they last hosted the Games in 2011.
Jun Hoong is expected to compete in two individual events – the 1m springboard and 10m platform. Azizul has been entered for the keirin and sprint while Al-Jufferi will compete in the Putra E class.
Meanwhile, the official flag-handing ceremony for the Malaysian contingent will be held in Putrajaya tomorrow with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V gracing the occasion.
