Former Keirin World Champion Azizulhasni Awang bounced back with vigor to take silver in his pet event at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup London 2018, contested by track cyclists from 47 countries.

The 30 year old finished behind reigning world champion Matthijs Buchli while Theo Bos completed the podium.

“I’m happy because this achievement is an improvement after winning the bronze medal at the previous World Cup series in Berlin, Germany.”

“This is an indication that I’m on the right track in my mission to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.” Azizul continued.

Azizul also progressed to the second round of the Individual Sprint, and finished in 21st place among 35 cyclists, a day after the keirin event. Citing tiredness, he was happy with his progress and beating 12th fastest sprinter Phillip Njisane from Trinidad & Tobago.

However, he fell a few centimeters and 0.013 secs short in beating 5th fastest Jack Carlin from Great Britain.
