This week, DAHON CEO Dr. David Hon was featured in an article for the Economic Daily News in Taiwan, a well-respected financial newspaper with a circulation of over 368,000 throughout Asia, Europe and the US. The interview detailed the ways in which he lives, and encourages others to live, a greener lifestyle. Dr. Hon follows a simple philosophy of reducing carbon, conserving energy and not living a wasteful life. A model he also applies to his business and one which he believes can be achieved by everyone if they can adopt a similar attitude.
In the article in the Economic Daily News, Dr. Hon explains that his lifestyle is based around a frugal and environmentally conscious philosophy, which is also the basis for his company. Simple measures in his home life; cold showers, energy saving light bulbs and not upgrading his car, are all part of this philosophy. Dr. Hon is also committed to protecting the environment through recycling, an innovative concept to Asia, and one which DAHON is at the forefront of introducing. He also encourages the use of public transport and bikes, and the reduced reliance of cars.
It has been well documented that following the development of his innovative folding bike, Dr. Hon, a successful physicist at Hughes Laboratories in California, changed careers and entered the bicycle market, bringing both his new product and green philosophy. This led to DAHON being one of the most respected companies in the folding bike industry, and voice for greener business.
Dr. Hon states that the “overuse of energy has led to the most severe environmental pollution in recent history and that by raising public awareness of the issues we can take charge of the situation.” The Turn a New Leaf initiative that was launched by DAHON last year continues to draw support, and the company is encouraging more and more people and businesses to take part and pledge.
DAHON is setting up Green Pledge Points in those countries or areas that are willing to advocate a greener life. DAHON will donate part of company profit to charity organizations as a reward to the city or community who have gathered the most Green Pledge Points.
Underscoring this commitment to a greener world, they are also awarding €10,000 to the individual, group, company or even city that has performed the most exemplary service in promoting local, green mobility during the initiative, which is ultimately promoting energy saving and a low carbon lifestyle globally.
