TA: What’s your best memory of racing?

Ann: When I achieved champion in Metro event in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. All my hard work in training paid off, and I won over my rivals with a 30 minute gap.

TA: How long have you been racing?

Ann: I was riding the mountain bike for 2 years before I started racing more than 3 years ago. I usually train in Tokun in Butterworth.

TA: What’s your target for this year?

Ann: I would like to maintain top 10 in Veteran category for Women. I’m already looking forward to the next race at Chyenne ‘Ride n Race’ Padang Serai in Kedah at the end of the month. Last year, I was the champion in the Veteran category.

TA: Do you encourage your girl friends to ride with you?

Ann: Yes, but most of them ride road bikes and only one has joined me on mountain bike.

Some say Ricky has THE advantage riding BMC’s latest Team Elite 01 and was the Veteran Champion at the recent Jamboree Balik Pulau 2016. He also won a string of events in 2015, as Veteran Champion at Jamboree Balik Pulau, Penang Hill Race 2, GP9 Jamboree and champion of Iron Horse Men Open.

TA: How long have you been riding?

Ricky: I’ve been riding mountain bike for the past six years. Prior to that, I was training in Karate up to the Black Belt level, Shodan. I also delve in other sports like football and badminton occasionally.

TA: How and where do you train?

Ricky: I mostly train solo at night in Balik Pulau where there’s lots of climbs. Every week about 4-5 times and 2 hours each time. I love climbing, that is my strength.

TA: What’s your best memory of racing?

Ricky: The Metro Kuala Kangsar race too, as the route was exciting and technical because it rained before the race so the track was wet and slippery, much to my delight.

TA: What bike are you using?

Ricky: I’m riding BMC’s latest model for 2016, the Team Elite 01. It’s a hardtail which has the Micro-Travel Technology (MTT), XTR Di2 groupset, DT Swiss wheels, Fox Shox on the fork.

According to BMC, the MTT system relies on a dual-guide design to promote torsional and lateral stiffness and is available in 3 levels of damping. It brings incredible performance for technically demanding trail conditions.

Aiman might still only be a teenager, but he packs a punch in a small bite like the ‘cili padi’. Small in stature but big in achievements, Aiman has swept the Junior champion spot at races like Penang Hill Race, Balik Pulau Jamboree and Penang MTB Challenge Your Limit.

TA: Do you encourage your friends to ride with you?

Aiman: Yes, but most of my friends prefer to play football and sepak takraw.

TA: So how did you get into mountain biking?

Aiman: I got into mountain biking because of my cousin who was crazy about it, and have been riding since I was 11 years old, so that’s 7 years now. I love mountain biking because of the sense of adventure and exploration. I usually train at Bukit Tebuan or Tokun in Butterworth.

TA: What’s your best memory of racing?

Aiman: The Penang Hill race last February as I won the overall champion and the junior category, and it was such a thrill!

Team Manager Wan hopes to get the team onto the podium in any event.

“We’re already looking forward to the race in Padang Serai, Kedah and we might register for the Fraser Hill King of Mountain for MTB in July,” said Wan.
