MIPS is going through an exciting phase, to continue to keep momentum and develop further on both the innovation and commercial sides, MIPS has recruited some key players in the helmet industry to join the company at the headquarters in Stockholm and to reassure the company’s presence in the USA and the global market.
The three new members of the MIPS crew are Greg Shapleigh, Josefin Lowgren and as mentioned earlier this year Christopher Pietrzak. Together they have many years of experience in the helmet industry and they bring great knowhow and energy to the company. “We are very pleased to be able to recruit such competent people to our staff, the three of them have been key players in the helmet industry for many years and their skills and energy will contribute to achieve our goals and keeping MIPS in the current position as the leading brand in added protection to helmets”, MIPS’ CEO Johan Thiel says.
Former General Manager of Sport Protection at Vista Outdoor, Greg Shapleigh, has devoted most of his professional life to helmets. He started his career at Giro in 1990 and guided the brand to a global leadership position in bicycling and snowsports helmets. Greg also spent several years managing the Bell brand of cycling and motorcycle helmets. Besides his commitment to helmets, Greg is also a keen user due to his passions for cycling and snowboarding. Greg is assuming the position as Strategic Advisor and will be stationed in California, USA.
”This is a significant time in the evolution of helmets and I’m very happy to be in a position to contribute to making them better meet the needs of all users. Our knowledge and understanding of the brain, and how it gets injured, is developing very rapidly, and MIPS is playing a leading role in applying this information to enhance helmet performance”, Greg Shapleigh says.
Josefin Löwgren is the new Head of Marketing at MIPS. She has a vast experience in international sports and consumer business, with an in-depth network in that same industry. For the last 12 years, Josefin has worked at the Swedish helmets and protection company POC, having held various positions, from its startup phase and through two acquisitions, leaving the position of Brand Manager. An expert in marketing and communications, Josefin’s mission is to enhance the consumer’s awareness about the benefits of added protection in helmets and to communicate the core values of the brand to media, brand partners and consumers. ”I’m very pleased to work at MIPS with such a strong team of people and with products that make a difference. Through my experience of brand building I feel that there is a great opportunity for me to bring new energy to the company and take the brand communication to the next level”, Josefin Löwgren says.
Since January this year, Christopher Pietrzak is the new Head of Innovation at MIPS. Chris comes also from the Vista Outdoor group where he held the position as Director of R&D for Bell Powersports. Earlier on, Chris has been director at Advanced Concepts Group (ACG) Easton Bell Sports/BRG (Bell, Giro, Riddell, Easton) and Product Manager Easton Mountain Products: Easton Technical Products. Chris has been working in the outdoor industry for 26 years, his vast experience in R&D is a great addition to the developing team at our headquarters in Stockholm. ”I have been developing helmets for the past 15 years because it literally makes a difference in people’s lives. By designing, developing, and testing helmets I get the immense satisfaction of knowing the product I created simply allowed someone to continue with the sport they enjoy after an accident, or on a more fundamental level, helped saved their life. For me MIPS is the next progression of that passion. The strength of my belief in the MIPS product to help protect people from brain injuries drove me to sell everything I owned in California (house, car, furniture) and move to Stockholm, Sweden with nothing more than two bags and my bike. Now, instead of only developing helmets for one brand, I have the ability to help protect more people by working with all the helmet brands who incorporate MIPS technology into their product”, Chris Pietrzak says.
