On December 2nd 2016, Kwiggle launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund the production of their lightweight upright bike that folds up to the size of airline hand luggage. Designed for urban adventures and travellers, Kwiggle combines biking and walking whilst supporting mobility of the back and unfolds in just 10 seconds.
German engineer and inventor Karsten Bettin came up with the concept of a bike for outdoor fitness and back exercises in 2010. He later transformed his idea into a fully functional foldable bicycle, creating an out-of-box solution for new urban mobility. “Our bike is unique because it it’s one of the fastest compact bicycles available and can easily fit in a backpack” said Mr Bettin. “Kwiggle is the only bicycle in the world featuring this unique combination of drivability, compactness and weight made possible due to our patented gear, folding system and adjustable seating”.
Kwiggle is made from wrought-alloy aluminium 7000er series, a strong material similar to stainless steel with good corrosion protection and elongation parameters. Weighing 8.5 kg, the bike can reach speeds up to 30 km/h, carries a weight of 92 kg, measures 55 x 40 x 25 cm when folded and can be fully assembled in just 10 seconds. Available in two sizes 1,40-1,90m and 1,45-1,95m, the bike comes in black or white with optional wheel guards and trolley wheels.
The Kwiggle bicycle launched on the popular crowdfunding site Kickstarter on December 2nd, 2016 for a 50 day campaign. Taking over seven years to develop, the campaign is looking to raise €195,000 Euros (Approx $206,000 USD) by January 21st, 2017. All early bird rewards are currently sold out, but other perks include a special price of €1240 Euros (Approx $1309 USD) for a Kwiggle 1st Light Edition 1 Speed which reflects a €210 discount off the MSRP and delivers worldwide. All bikes are manufactured in Germany.
