Myskillmedia Sdn Bhd, the organisers of the Melaka International Century Ride (MICR) has raised the furor of the cycling community by cancelling the ride just five days before event on is due to take place on October 30th.
In an announcement on social media, the organisers posted on their Facebook page citing lack of funds to stage the event, and stated that no refunds will be given but the goodie bag with cycling jersey and a medal will be handed out instead.
The cycling community has lashed back with hundreds of angry comments calling it a scam, and some have begun to lodge police reports and seeking advice of class action suits against the organisers. Some 2000 cyclists from around Malaysia and other countries have already made arrangements for flights and accommodation for the event in Malacca this weekend.
Cycling Events.my which is an online registration portal for cycling events, have also issued a statement to cease their relationship with MICR and offer refund to the Selangor Plus Century Ride held by the same organiser.
“Given the circumstances of MICR Cancellation, we hereby cease all our official relationship with MYSKILLMEDIA Sdn Bhd, including our registration and payment collection services for Selangor Plus Century Ride 2016, with immediate effect. All matters related to the event, registration and payment from now on, if any, should be dealt directly with MYSKILLMEDIA Sdn Bhd or the next registration service provider appointed by MYSKILLMEDIA Sdn. Bhd.”, said Cycling Events on Facebook.
“Besides, we would like to announce that the participant fee collected for Selangor Plus Century Ride is yet to be settled to MYSKILLMEDIA Sdn Bhd, and is currently with CyclingEvents.my. Therefore, in everyone’s interest, we are taking the initiative absorb all administrative and financial costs involved and DO A FULL REFUND to all registered and paid participants. For matters regarding SPCR refund, please follow the refund instruction carefully,” continued Cycling Events on Facebook.
