Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) president Abdul Hamid Abdul Hussain, flagged off a thousand cycling enthusiasts at the Jalur Gemilang Relaxed Cycling event recently.

The council president also took part, completing the 14km car-free route in Ampang on a wet Sunday morning among cyclists of various ages and walks of life.

“I hope this event will keep the patriotic spirit alive among us although National Day has passed. This event is also to promote a healthy lifestyle and an alternative mode of transportation to reduce our carbon footprint and air pollution,” said the council president.

Since this is not a race, I hope everyone will enjoy cycling on these roads, which would not be conducive on other days,” he said.

The participants started from Jalan Ampang and rode along Jalan Kolam Ayer Lama, Jalan Ulu Klang, Jalan Wawasan 4/2, Jalan Mewah, Jalan Cahaya 1, Jalan Cempaka, Jalan Dagang Besar, Jalan 1, Jalan 5, Jalan Air Bukit, Jalan Mamanda 1-3 and Jalan 7/1.
