Following the World Cup cross country race in La Bresse, France earlier this month the SRAM TYPE 2 rear derailleur continues to make an appearance on the men’s elite podium. This time under current cross country World Champion Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized).
The TYPE 2 rear derailleur made its World Cup debut in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on 2011 downhill World Champion Danny Hart and Stevie Smith’s bikes, a true testament to the versatility of this product. Since then it has been raced by cross country athletes Burry Stander, Christoph Sauser, Manuel Fumic, Marco Fontana and other world class athletes. To date, TYPE 2 has claimed six podium spots over the past four World Cups and its benefits are gaining attention.
“The TYPE 2 rear derailleur is great to work with. The riders appreciate the crisp, precise shifting. I like Cage Lock because it helps with wheel changes and working on the bike in the pit. The real telling point is that the riders feel that the benefit of the Roller Bearing Clutch overcomes the 30g weight penalty of using TYPE 2 compared to the XX rear derailleur. That says a lot,” says Dylan Van Der Merwe, Kulhavy’s mechanic.

SRAM’s X0 and X9 TYPE 2 rear derailleurs feature Roller Bearing Clutch technology, a self lubricating, factory calibrated, 360 degree one-way roller bearing clutch that controls chain tension. This attribute eliminates derailleur bounce and chain slap caused by nasty terrain without sacrificing precision.
In addition, the TYPE 2 rear derailleurs feature Cage Lock which allows you to push the cage forward and lock it into place with the push of a button.
