Following Azizul’s daring attempt to shame Terengganu MB after his medal win, Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman has responded in blur fashion. According to Bernama, the Terengganu MB was absolutely clueless about the sponsorship application by national track cyclist, and he has instructed the state Sports Council to carry out an investigation on the matter and will contact Azizul personally to clarify.
Asked on whether he had received any application from Azizulhasni, Ahmad Razif said until today, to his knowledge, there was none.
“I am not sure…wallahuallam…I do not know who is the manager for Azizulhasni. If there was a mistakes from us, I on behalf of the state government would like to apologise. It is well informed that the state government is really committed in promoting sports,” he said.
When Azizulhasni Awang’s Facebook post went viral, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin spoke to the press and attributed it to a “misunderstanding”.
The latest update today from Bernama tells that the Council denies receiving aid request from Azizulhasni. Its director, Ibni Amin Busu, said he had neither received any letter from Azizulhasni nor knew about the application.
“I have not seen such a letter. Let me get more information on the matter,” he told reporters after Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman handed out incentives to Terengganu athletes who had excelled at the recent Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak.
Ibni Amin was asked about Azizulhasni’s claim that the state government had disregarded a request by him and fellow cyclist Fatehah Mustapa for roadbikes to prepare for the Rio Olympics. Also, Ibni Amin said the state government had presented a RM5,000 incentive to Azizulhasni that was accepted by his mother for having represented Malaysia in the cycling event at the Rio Olympics.
Now that Azizul is an Olympic medallist, we are sure there is no end to the supply of bikes for him!
